My Dad once said to me "you'll never make money as a photographer".

I was about 12 at the time, we were talking about careers and I said I wanted to be one. He was looking out, times were different and he was giving the advice he knew best, so I listened.

Time passed, different paths formed, I went into the trades and became a car painter, which I really enjoyed. But the desire still hadn't left me and so 20 years later I took the leap, and now I not only make money as a photographer, I'm proud to say I've made an entire career and built a successful business as a Professional Commercial Photographer. Not ever once to prove Dad wrong, but to fulfill my desire.

Getting paid was never the driver, I just love it, always have! And I am lucky to say that I love what I do and I can continue to do it everyday and even better - it supports my family! I also love the fact that my passion helps other people too! Sometimes, I get to capture people and what their passion is, and help them make money so they too can continue their passion!

And I guess on reflection, just because someone says you can't, doesn't mean you can't, it just means that what they say maybe isn't right and maybe don't let your dreams just stay dreams.
